The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Two of Japan's most loved manga artists grew up in Toyama. Fujiko F. Fujio, creator of Doraemon, was born in Takaoka. Fujiko Fujio A, creator of Ninja Hattori-kun, was born in Himi. This private 2-day trip from Tokyo visits both hometowns.
In Takaoka, the Fujiko F. Fujio Furusato Gallery shows original drawings and the story of his life. Around the city you find Doraemon statues and other characters, and you may see the Doraemon-themed tram.
In Himi, a fishing town by the sea, the Himi Shiokaze Gallery holds the art collection of Fujiko Fujio A. On Manga Road, statues of his characters, including Ninja Hattori-kun, line the street by the river.
Himi is also known for its fish market area. There is time for lunch by the coast. On clear days you can see the Tateyama mountains across the bay.
We stay one night in Takaoka, so both towns can be seen at an easy pace.
Your driver-guide meets you in the lobby of your hotel in central Tokyo. The van has room for your luggage, and we stop at expressway rest areas for toilets, snacks and coffee. Times in the plan below are a guide and can shift a little with traffic.

DAY 1 Morning pickup in Tokyo and drive to Takaoka (about 5 hours). Afternoon at the Fujiko F. Fujio Furusato Gallery and Doraemon statues. Evening free in Takaoka.
DAY 2 Morning in Himi at the Himi Shiokaze Gallery and on Manga Road. Afternoon drive back to your Tokyo hotel.

Yes. It is a private tour in our own van, so your driver-guide can skip, extend or add stops where time allows.
Is the price per person?
No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help. If a typhoon or official weather warning stops the trip, we offer a new date or a full refund. For a GetYourGuide booking, the terms shown on that booking apply.
