The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Kamakura is the easiest great day out from Tokyo, and the easiest to get wrong on the train – crowded platforms, one-way streets and a long walk between the sights. In a private van with a guide you see it all without the queues.
We collect you at your Tokyo hotel and drive an hour south. The first stop is the Great Buddha of Kotoku-in, 13 metres of bronze that has sat in the open since a tsunami took its hall in 1498. A few minutes away, Hase-dera climbs the hillside with its eleven-headed Kannon, hydrangea paths and a terrace looking over Sagami Bay. From there we go to the old town centre: Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, the shrine that gave the samurai capital its spine, and Komachi Street, where you can eat your way through purple sweet potato soft serve, shirasu rice bowls and fresh senbei.
In the afternoon we drive along the coast to Enoshima. Cross the causeway, ride the escalators up through the shrine, and on a clear day see Mount Fuji floating over the bay from the top of the island. If you prefer, we swap Enoshima for a ride on the little Enoden tram along the beach.
What you pay is what you pay
The price is one fixed amount for your whole group: the private van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide for the day. There are no per-person supplements and no booking fees. Temple entry fees, the Enoshima escalator and your lunch are paid by each guest on the day, and they add up to only a few hundred yen each.
Good to know
The order of stops changes with traffic and crowds, and your guide will tell you what fits best. Kamakura is busiest at weekends and during hydrangea season in June.

This is a walking day with some steps and slopes, especially at Hase-dera and on Enoshima. Comfortable shoes are recommended. The order of stops may change with traffic and crowds. Temple entry fees and your lunch are paid by you on the day, a few hundred yen each. Pickup and drop-off can be changed on request at no extra cost. Travelling with small children? Yes. It is a private tour in our own van, so your driver-guide can skip, extend or add stops where time allows.
Is the price per person?
No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
