Warranty Policy v1.2 (6 months or 2,000 km; engine, transmission, hybrid main battery; dealer-repair procedure)
Yamaguchi Motors gives a limited warranty on eligible vehicles sold for use in Japan. It is a defined warranty on the engine and the transmission; on hybrids it adds the hybrid main battery. Fully electric vehicles are not covered unless that vehicle’s page states otherwise in writing. It is not a bumper-to-bumper warranty. Whether it applies to a particular vehicle, and for how long, is shown on that vehicle’s page under “What your price includes”, recorded at reservation and repeated on your invoice.
1. Coverage
Engine warranty
Covers mechanical failure of these engine components: cylinder block and head, pistons and rings, connecting rods, crankshaft and bearings, camshafts and valve train, timing chain or belt and tensioners, oil pump, water pump, head gasket, intake and exhaust manifolds, and the engine control unit. Includes the labour to diagnose and repair a covered failure at our workshop.
Transmission
Internal mechanical failure of the automatic transmission, CVT or manual gearbox: gears, clutch packs, valve body, torque converter and the transmission control unit. The clutch disc of a manual car is a wear item and is not covered.
Hybrid main battery
For vehicles marked “hybrid battery warranty”: covers failure of the high-voltage traction battery pack that produces a manufacturer fault code or a measured capacity fault confirmed by our diagnostic equipment. Repair or replacement with a new, remanufactured or tested used pack at our choice. The 12-volt auxiliary battery is not part of this cover.
Electric vehicles
The engine warranty does not apply to a fully electric vehicle. Cover for the drive motor, the inverter or the high-voltage traction battery is not included unless that vehicle’s own page states in writing that it applies. Where it is stated, the same limits apply: 6 months or 2,000 km from handover, whichever comes first, and the 12-volt auxiliary battery, the charging cable and any charging equipment remain excluded. Your statutory rights under Japanese law are unaffected.
2. Period and mileage
- 6 months from the delivery or handover date shown on the handover record, or 2,000 km driven from the odometer reading recorded at handover, whichever occurs first. The same limits apply to the hybrid battery cover.
- The warranty starts at handover, not at reservation. Coverage is per vehicle and per the customer named on the invoice; it does not transfer if the vehicle is resold within the period.
3. Not covered
- Consumables and normal wear: engine oil and other fluids, filters, spark plugs and glow plugs, drive belts other than the timing belt, hoses, clutch, brake pads, discs and drums, tyres, wipers, bulbs, fuses, and the 12-volt battery unless specifically covered in writing.
- Cosmetics: paint, body, glass, trim, upholstery, corrosion.
- Anything outside the listed components: drivetrain, suspension, steering, air-conditioning, electrical accessories, navigation and audio.
- Conditions disclosed in the listing, on the inspection record or on the auction sheet at the time of sale.
- Damage from accident, flood, fire, theft, vandalism or external impact; abuse, racing, off-road use, overloading, towing beyond rating, wrong fuel or fluids.
- Unauthorised modifications, tuning or repairs carried out elsewhere without our written agreement.
- Failure to respond to warning signs: continued driving after a warning light, unusual noise, smell, smoke or loss of power, and overheating caused by continued operation.
- Failures caused by not following the maintenance schedule in section 4.
- Consequential costs: loss of use, hire car, accommodation, lost income, and transport or towing unless approved in advance under section 5.
4. Your obligations
- Have the engine oil and filter changed at the interval on the handover record (normally every 5,000 km or 6 months) and keep the receipts. Failure to perform required maintenance may affect warranty coverage where the lack of maintenance caused or materially contributed to the failure; we may ask for maintenance evidence when assessing a claim.
- Stop driving and contact us as soon as a warning light comes on or an unusual noise, smell or loss of power occurs.
- Do not authorise any repair before we have agreed it.
5. How to claim
- Stop driving and contact us first by WhatsApp, LINE, phone or e-mail with your order number, the symptom and, if possible, a photo of the dashboard and the odometer. Do not authorise any repair before we have agreed it.
- Near Gunma: bring the vehicle to our workshop in Ota. We diagnose and repair covered failures at no charge for the covered parts and labour.
- Far from Gunma: take the vehicle to an authorised dealer of the car’s manufacturer near you and ask for a written repair estimate (見積書). Send the estimate to us. We confirm whether the failure is covered and whether the price is reasonable, and answer within 2 business days with our written approval to the dealer.
- For a covered repair we pay the dealer directly by bank transfer against the dealer’s invoice; you pay nothing for the covered parts and labour. Items that are not covered are quoted to you separately before any work, and you decide.
- Towing or transport costs are covered only when pre-authorised in writing by Yamaguchi Motors and the failure is confirmed as covered under this warranty. Transport arranged without our written authorisation is at your cost.
- Repairs at another workshop are covered only with our written prior authorisation and up to the cost we would have incurred.
6. Territory
Japan only. Vehicles exported, or driven outside Japan, are not covered. Export sales carry no warranty unless agreed in writing.
7. Legal rights
This warranty is in addition to your rights under Japanese law, including the seller’s liability for non-conformity under the Civil Code, which are not reduced by these terms. Where a term here conflicts with mandatory law, the law applies.
Yamaguchi Motors 合同会社, 529-2 Iwasegawacho, Ota City, Gunma 373-0841. Warranty labels on each vehicle page are generated from that vehicle’s settings; if a vehicle page shows “no warranty”, these terms do not apply to it.
Version 1.2, updated 12 September 2026. Clarified that the transmission is covered: the opening summary now names it, and it has been removed from the list of exclusions. No cover was reduced by this change.
