Yokohama Port Shore Excursion to Kamakura - Private Tour
Met at the pier, back at the pier in time. Kamakura's Great Buddha, a bamboo temple and the old shopping street, with a guide who knows the ship schedule. Private van, one fixed price per group.
Road-day snapshot
This is your private day, so the route is flexible: tell us if you want to skip a stop, stay longer somewhere or add a place nearby.
The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Your ship gives you one day in Yokohama. Kamakura, the 13th-century samurai capital with the Great Buddha, is 45 minutes away by private van – and we know the terminal, the traffic and the all-aboard time.
Your guide meets you with a name board at Osanbashi Pier, Daikoku Pier or Shinko Pier – whichever your ship uses – and the van leaves as soon as you are aboard. In Kamakura we start at Kotoku-in and the Great Buddha, 13 metres of bronze cast in 1252 that has sat in the open since a tsunami took its hall away in 1498; you can go inside it. Then Hase-dera on the hill above, with its eleven-headed golden Kannon, hydrangea steps and a terrace over Sagami Bay.
We drive across town to Hokoku-ji, the bamboo temple, where you drink matcha in a grove of 2,000 bamboo stems, and Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, the great shrine at the head of the city with its long approach. Lunch is on Komachi-dori, the shopping street, or a set meal near the shrine – your guide takes you to a good place, not a tourist canteen.
If the ship’s schedule allows, we finish with the coast road past Enoshima and Yuigahama beach on the way back, or a stop in Yokohama’s Chinatown for a last hour ashore. We return you to the pier at least 90 minutes before the all-aboard time you give us.
What you pay is what you pay
The price is one fixed amount for your whole group: the private van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide for the day. There are no per-person supplements and no booking fees. Temple entries (about 300-400 yen each) and your lunch are paid by each guest on the day.
Good to know
Tell us your ship, pier and all-aboard time when you book. Kamakura temples involve steps; the Great Buddha and Hachimangu are flat and easy. The same tour works from a Yokohama or Tokyo hotel.
Choose with confidence
Is this the right journey for your group?
Excellent fit if
- Pier pickup and return, timed to your ship's all-aboard
- Kamakura Great Buddha - 13 metres of bronze from 1252
- Hase-dera terrace over Sagami Bay and its golden Kannon
- Hokoku-ji bamboo grove with matcha, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu shrine
- Private van for your group only, English, Urdu or Hindi guide
Said plainly
Send us your ship name, pier and all-aboard time after booking; we plan the day backwards from it and return you at least 90 minutes early. Temples have steps; the Great Buddha and the main shrine are flat. Pickup can also be a Yokohama or Tokyo hotel at no extra cost. Entries and lunch are paid by you on the day. Travelling with small children? Tell us their ages when booking and we will confirm the child-seat arrangement for your date.
