The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Eiji Tsuburaya was the special effects master behind Ultraman and the early Godzilla films. He was born in Sukagawa, a small city in Fukushima. Today Sukagawa calls itself a sister city of the Land of Light, Ultraman's home planet. Statues of Ultraman heroes and monsters stand along its streets. This day trip takes about 9 hours.
Your driver-guide picks you up at your hotel in central Tokyo in the morning and drives north on the Tohoku Expressway, with rest stops. The drive takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.
You start at Sukagawa Station and walk to see the Ultraman statues around the town. Each statue shows a hero or monster from the series, and fans love to find them all. Next you visit the Tsuburaya Eiji memorial museum inside the city center building. It shows his life, his film work and his studio, with models and displays about how special effects were made.
After a local lunch in Sukagawa, you visit the Sukagawa Peony Garden. In late April and May, thousands of peony flowers bloom in large old gardens. Outside the flower season, it is a quiet park for a short walk.
In the afternoon you drive back to your Tokyo hotel.

What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
