The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan opened in the year 705. Guinness World Records lists it as the oldest hotel in the world. It sits deep in the Hayakawa valley in western Yamanashi, under the Southern Alps, and hot spring water flows straight from its own source into the baths.
On Day 1 we pick you up at your hotel in central Tokyo and drive west, about 3.5 hours. On the way we stop at Shimobe Onsen, an old hot spring village in a small valley. Then the road follows the Hayakawa river up into the mountains. The valley is quiet, with forest on both sides and very few houses.
You check in at Keiunkan in the afternoon. Your room, a multi-course Japanese dinner and breakfast are included. There is time to use the hot spring baths before and after dinner. The water is free-flowing from the source and has never been heated or reused, which is part of the inn's story. Your guide stays nearby and is ready the next morning.
On Day 2 you have breakfast and one more bath. Then we drive down the Hayakawa valley with stops at viewpoints along the river. We have a short break on the way and drive back to your hotel in Tokyo, arriving in the late afternoon.

Lodging at Keiunkan is included. Rooms are Japanese style with futon beds. Your group shares rooms by the inn's room sizes. If Keiunkan is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead book your group into another historic hot spring inn in the same area of Yamanashi. Japanese inns have their own bath rules. Guests with tattoos may not be able to use the shared baths. We will tell you the inn's rules before the tour. The road up the Hayakawa valley is narrow and can close after heavy rain. If the road is closed on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. Dietary needs can be added in the booking form.

No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
