Road-day snapshot

This is your private tour, so the route is flexible: tell us if you want to skip a stop, stay longer somewhere or add a place nearby.

The experience

A private journey, thoughtfully paced

Your private van picks you up at your hotel in Tokyo's 23 wards and drives to Nagano to see the wild snow monkeys of Jigokudani, the macaques that bathe in hot springs. Your park ticket is included. The rest of the day is yours to build from the Nagano spots below, with your English, Hindi or Urdu speaking driver-guide.

How it works

The Snow Monkey Park is the core of the day. Then choose 2 to 3 more stops from the list. You can add your wishes in the booking form, tell your guide at pickup, or change the plan during the day.

Spots you can choose

– Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park: a forest walk of about 1.6 km each way to the hot spring pool (ticket included)

– Shibu Onsen: an old hot spring town with wooden inns and lantern streets

– Obuse: a small town of chestnut sweets, sake and the Hokusai Museum (museum paid on site)

– Zenkoji Temple in Nagano city: a 1,400-year-old temple

– Yudanaka and a foot bath

– Lunch: Shinshu soba noodles or chestnut rice (paid on site)

A sample day

Early hotel pickup, drive to Nagano, the forest trail to the Snow Monkey Park, soba lunch, Obuse town, a short stop at Zenkoji Temple, then the drive back to your hotel in Tokyo.

This is a private tour. Only your group.

The monkeys are wild animals. We watch them from the path and never feed or touch them.

If the Snow Monkey Park is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead spend the day in Obuse, Zenkoji and Shibu Onsen.

Said plainly

Long day: about 12 hours door to door, with 3 to 4 hours of driving each way. The macaques at Jigokudani are wild animals. Sightings and hot-spring bathing cannot be guaranteed in any season. The path to the park is a forest trail of about 1.6 km each way. It can be muddy, snowy or icy. Wear sturdy shoes and warm, waterproof layers in winter. Obuse shop and museum opening days vary; your guide adapts the stop. Pickup and drop-off are from addresses within Tokyo's 23 wards. Airports and ports are not included. If the Snow Monkey Park is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead spend the day in Obuse, Zenkoji and Shibu Onsen.
