The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
The Oigawa Railway in Shizuoka still runs steam locomotives on a regular line. The trains climb the Oi river valley between tea fields and forested gorges.
THE STEAM TRAIN. You ride a stretch of the line behind a steam engine, in old wooden carriages. Your van meets you at the other end.
THE GORGE. Further up the valley is Okuoi-Kojo, a small station on a bridge over a green lake. We drive to a viewpoint and walk down to the lake bridge.
TEA COUNTRY. The valley is one of Japan's tea regions. We stop at a tea shop to taste the local green tea.
This is a long day, around 13 hours door to door. This is a private tour. Only your group in the vehicle.
Steam trains do not run every day. We will tell you before the tour which train runs on your date. If no steam train runs on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead ride the regular line.

Can we change the route on the day?
Yes. It is a private tour in our own van, so your driver-guide can skip, extend or add stops where time allows.
Is the price per person?
No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
