Your private guide collects you from your hotel by van and walks you through a district where more than 170 secondhand booksellers line one street. You do not need to read Japanese to enjoy it. The shopfronts, the smell of old paper and the architecture carry the whole visit, and your guide translates whatever catches your eye.
The walk continues past Kanda Myojin, a Shinto shrine that has guarded this part of the city since the eighth century, and along the guitar shops of Ochanomizu. There is time for a coffee in a retro basement cafe or a plate of curry if your group wants one. This is a half day at a gentle pace, entirely private, and every place on the route is free to enter.

Do we need to read Japanese to enjoy this?
No. Most guests do not read Japanese. The shopfronts, the architecture and the atmosphere carry the visit, several shops carry rare English-language titles, and your guide translates anything you point at.
Is the price per person or for the group?
It is the total price for your whole group of up to six people. The van, fuel, parking and your private guide are all included, and every place on the route is free to enter. There is nothing extra to pay on the day.
Are the shops open every day?
Most open daily, but a handful close on Sundays and public holidays. Your guide knows which are open on your date and routes around any that are shut.
Is it suitable for children or older travellers?
Yes. The route is flat and the pace is gentle. Some of the older shops have narrow aisles and steep stairs, so your guide takes larger groups through those in turns or waits outside with anyone who prefers to.
Can we combine this with something else the same day?
Yes. This is a four-hour half day, so it pairs well with an afternoon of your own or a second half-day tour. Ask us and we will plan the timing.
