This is your private tour, so the route is flexible: tell us if you want to skip a stop, stay longer somewhere or add a place nearby.
The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Hakushu Distillery stands in a large forest at the foot of Mt Kaikoma in Yamanashi. The whisky is made with soft water that comes from the granite of the Southern Alps. This about 10 hour day trip takes you there in your own van.
On the guided distillery tour you see the mash tuns, the wooden washbacks and the copper stills, then you finish with a tasting. Your tour ticket is included. Your driver never drinks. Non-drinkers and anyone under 20 can join the tour without the tasting as a non-alcoholic option, and enjoy the forest and the spring water instead. This tour is about alcohol and is not halal.
After the distillery we drive a few minutes to the Ojiragawa Gorge. The river runs over white granite, and the water is a clear blue-green. A forest path follows the river past small waterfalls and pools. You walk at an easy pace for about one hour. The small entry fee is included.
Lunch is not included. Your guide can suggest a place near the distillery. On the way back to Tokyo, on clear days, you can see the peaks of the Southern Alps and Mount Fuji from the road.
This is a private tour. Only your group. One family or group of 1 to 6 people per van, never shared with strangers. Your driver-guide speaks English, and also Hindi and Urdu.
If the Hakushu Distillery tour is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead walk the Ojiragawa Gorge longer and visit a sake brewery or spring water spot in Hokuto.
