The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Autumn comes first to Hokkaido. On the slopes of Asahidake, the highest mountain in Hokkaido at 2,291 m, the leaves turn red and gold from about mid-September, weeks before Tokyo.
On Day 1 we drive from Tokyo to Oarai port, about 2 hours, and board the evening ferry. The crossing takes about 18 hours, in a cabin berth.
On Day 2 we arrive in Tomakomai in the afternoon and drive to Asahidake Onsen or Higashikawa, about 3.5 hours. You stay near the mountain.
On Day 3 we ride the Asahidake Ropeway up to Sugatami station. The ropeway is included. You walk the Sugatami pond loop, about 1 to 1.5 hours, with steam rising from the volcano and red and yellow plants all around. On a calm day the peak shows in the pond. In the afternoon we drive to Biei and see the Blue Pond, Shirahige Falls and the hills of the Patchwork Road.
On Day 4 we see more of Biei in the morning, then drive to Tomakomai for the evening ferry.
On Day 5 we arrive in Oarai around midday and drive back to Tokyo.
This tour runs about mid-September to early October, the main colour time.
This is a private tour. Only your group. One van, 1 to 6 people, never shared. Your driver-guide speaks English, and also Hindi and Urdu.
If the Asahidake Ropeway is closed or cancelled on your date, you can receive a full refund for your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead see the autumn colors at Tenninkyo gorge and Shirogane.

Yes. It is a private tour in our own van, so your driver-guide can skip, extend or add stops where time allows.
Is the price per person?
No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
