The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Takeda Castle stands on a mountain top in Asago, Hyogo. Only the stone walls remain, but on cool autumn mornings a sea of clouds can fill the valley and the ruins seem to float in the sky. It is known as the Machu Picchu of Japan.
On day 2 you leave early, before sunrise, to the Ritsuunkyo viewpoint across the valley. From here you can see the whole castle on its ridge. The sea of clouds is a natural event and is never guaranteed, but September to November gives the best chance. Later in the morning you walk up to the castle ruins and along the high stone walls.
In the afternoon you visit Ikuno Silver Mine, a mine worked for more than 1,000 years. You walk through cool tunnels with life-size figures showing how miners worked, and see the mining museum.

This is a private tour. Only your group. One van, one driver-guide, 1 to 6 guests, never shared with other travelers.
If Takeda Castle ruins are closed on your date (for example in winter or after heavy rain), you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead visit another castle site of the same kind in the region.
DAY 1 Pickup at your Tokyo hotel in the morning and drive to the Asago area (about 7 to 8 hours with breaks). Early night.
DAY 2 Pre-dawn trip to the Ritsuunkyo viewpoint, Takeda Castle ruins walk, then Ikuno Silver Mine tunnels in the afternoon.
DAY 3 Morning departure and the drive back to your Tokyo hotel (evening arrival).

The sea of clouds is a natural event. It is never guaranteed, even in the best season (September to November). Day 2 starts before sunrise. The walks to the viewpoint and castle have slopes and steps. The castle ruins are closed in winter, usually from early January to the end of February. Dietary needs can be added in the booking form. If Takeda Castle ruins are closed on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead visit another castle site of the same kind in the region.

Yes. It is a private tour in our own van, so your driver-guide can skip, extend or add stops where time allows.
Is the price per person?
No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
