From Tokyo: 3-Day Ine & Amanohashidate Customizable Tour
See the Sea of Japan coast north of Kyoto: Ine fishing village with houses built over the water, the Amanohashidate sandbar and thatched Miyama.
Road-day snapshot
This is your private tour, so the route is flexible: tell us if you want to skip a stop, stay longer somewhere or add a place nearby.
The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Kyoto Prefecture also has a quiet sea coast. On this tour you leave the temples behind and travel to the Tango Peninsula on the Sea of Japan.
At Ine you see the funaya, about 230 wooden boathouses built right on the edge of the bay. Fishing families park boats on the ground floor and live upstairs. A short boat ride on Ine Bay lets you see the line of houses from the water.
At Amanohashidate you see one of the Three Views of Japan, a long sandbar covered with pine trees across the bay. You ride the lift or cable car up to the viewpoint and look at the view the local way, bending over and looking between your legs. You can also walk a part of the pine path.
On the way back you stop at Miyama, a mountain village with dozens of thatched-roof farmhouses that people still live in.
Your English-speaking driver-guide drives the van from Tokyo and back, and explains fishing life, old farm houses and local food along the way.
This is a private tour. Only your group. One van, one driver-guide, 1 to 6 guests, never shared with other travelers.
If the Ine Bay boat does not run on your date (for example in strong wind), you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead view the boathouses from the harbor walk and a hillside viewpoint.
DAY 1 Pickup at your Tokyo hotel in the morning and drive to the Tango coast (about 7 to 8 hours with breaks). Free evening.
DAY 2 Amanohashidate viewpoint and pine path, then Ine with the boat ride on the bay and time to walk the village.
DAY 3 Miyama thatched village in the morning, then the drive back to your Tokyo hotel (evening arrival).

If you prefer, we can instead view the boathouses from the harbor walk and a hillside viewpoint.
