The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge links Kobe with Awaji Island. Its centre span is 1,991 m long, the longest of any suspension bridge in the world for many years. On the Bridge World tour, small groups walk along the service road inside the bridge, then take a lift to the top of a main tower, nearly 300 m above the sea. From there you look down on ships passing below and across to Kobe and Awaji.
Your Bridge World ticket is included. A bridge engineer guide leads the tour in Japanese. Your own driver-guide is with you and explains in English.
Before the tour you walk the Maiko Marine Promenade, a glass-floored walkway inside the bridge. After the tour we drive to Akashi. The Uonotana market street is famous for octopus and for akashiyaki, soft egg dumplings dipped in broth. Then you see the turrets of Akashi Castle in its park. The market and park are free.
Akashi is about 550 km from Tokyo, so Day 1 and Day 3 are mostly driving. You book your own hotel in Kobe or Akashi.
This is a private tour. Only your group. One family or group of 1 to 6 people per van, never shared with strangers. Your driver-guide speaks English, and also Hindi and Urdu.
If the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge tower tour is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead visit the Bridge Exhibition Center and walk the Maiko Marine Promenade inside the bridge.
DAY 1 Hotel pickup in Tokyo and drive west to Kobe (about 7 hours).
DAY 2 Maiko Marine Promenade, the Bridge World tower tour, then Uonotana market and Akashi Castle park.

Bridge World runs only from April to November, Thursday to Sunday and on national holidays. Bridge World tickets are booked two months ahead and allow up to 5 people per booking, so a group of 6 is split into two bookings. Every guest must bring photo ID, such as a passport. Children must meet the operator's minimum age. You climb stairs and walk about 1 km. Wear flat shoes. No loose items are allowed on the tower. If the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge tower tour is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead visit the Bridge Exhibition Center and walk the Maiko Marine Promenade inside the bridge. Dietary needs can be added in the booking form.

Yes. It is a private tour in our own van, so your driver-guide can skip, extend or add stops where time allows.
Is the price per person?
No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 5 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
