The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Hida in the mountains of Gifu is one of Japan's best-known anime places. The film Your Name used Hida-Furukawa as a model for scenes in its story, and the series Hyouka is set in a town based on Takayama.
In Hida-Furukawa you see the station from the film and walk to Kida Wakamiya Shrine, with its stone steps. At a local workshop you try kumihimo, the braided cord that plays a big part in Your Name. The workshop is included. Then you walk along the Setogawa canal, where large carp swim past white storehouse walls.
On Day 2 you explore Takayama, the home town of Hyouka. We visit Takayama Jinya, an old government office from the Edo period, with tatami halls and a rice storehouse. Entry is included. Then you walk the old merchant streets of Sanmachi, with sake breweries and craft shops.
Your guide knows both stories and points out the scenes. You book your own hotel in Takayama or Hida-Furukawa.
This is a private tour. Only your group. One family or group of 1 to 6 people per van, never shared with strangers. Your driver-guide speaks English, and also Hindi and Urdu.
If Takayama Jinya or the kumihimo workshop is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead visit the Hida Folk Village or the Hida Furukawa Matsuri Kaikan festival museum.
DAY 1 Hotel pickup in Tokyo and drive to Hida-Furukawa (about 5 hours). Station, Kida Wakamiya Shrine, kumihimo workshop and the Setogawa canal.
DAY 2 Takayama Jinya and the Sanmachi old streets, then the drive back to your Tokyo hotel.

Hida is in the mountains. From December to March there can be snow, and we drive with winter tyres. Please be quiet and polite at the station and shrine, which are used by local people. If Takayama Jinya or the kumihimo workshop is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead visit the Hida Folk Village or the Hida Furukawa Matsuri Kaikan festival museum. Dietary needs can be added in the booking form.

No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
