The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Yahiko Shrine is the most important shrine in Niigata Prefecture. It stands at the foot of Mt Yahiko under tall cedar trees. In its treasure house you can see an enormous sword about 2.2 m long, made in the 15th century, along with other old treasures. Entry is included.
Then you ride the Mt Yahiko Ropeway up the mountain. At the top is the Okunomiya, the inner shrine, with views over the rice plains of Niigata and, on clear days, across the sea to Sado Island. The ropeway ticket is included. In November the mountain turns red and gold.
You stay in Yahiko onsen town, with small hot spring inns near the shrine. You book your own hotel.
On Day 2 we drive to Tsubame, a town famous across Japan for metal tableware, cutlery and tools. At the Tsubame Industrial Materials Museum you see how the town's craftspeople worked metal, from old hand-beaten copper to modern spoons and forks. Entry is included.
This is a private tour. Only your group. One family or group of 1 to 6 people per van, never shared with strangers. Your driver-guide speaks English, and also Hindi and Urdu.
If the Mt Yahiko Ropeway is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead spend more time at Yahiko Shrine and the onsen town, or visit a metalwork workshop in Tsubame-Sanjo.
DAY 1 Hotel pickup in Tokyo and drive to Yahiko (about 4 hours). Yahiko Shrine, the treasure house and the Mt Yahiko Ropeway.
DAY 2 Tsubame Industrial Materials Museum, then the drive back to your Tokyo hotel.

What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
