The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Mars Shinshu Distillery sits in Miyada Village in Nagano, at about 800 m above the sea, at the foot of the Central Alps. It is one of the highest whisky distilleries in Japan. The cool, clean air and the soft mountain water shape its whisky.
You see the stills and the warehouse with your guide, then enjoy a tasting of up to three whiskies. The tasting fee is included. Your driver does not drink. Non-drinkers and anyone under 20 can skip the tasting and still enjoy the distillery tour, as a non-alcoholic option.
On Day 2 we take the mountain bus and the Komagatake Ropeway up to Senjojiki station at about 2,600 m. The Senjojiki Cirque is a bowl carved by old glaciers, with alpine flowers in summer and red leaves in early autumn. You walk around the cirque floor at an easy pace. The bus and ropeway tickets are included.
We also visit Komagane town. This tour is about alcohol and is not halal. You book your own hotel in Komagane, near the distillery.
This is a private tour. Only your group. One family or group of 1 to 6 people per van, never shared with strangers. Your driver-guide speaks English, and also Hindi and Urdu.
If Mars Shinshu Distillery or the Komagatake Ropeway is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead visit the Takato castle park and the Komagane old town, or another distillery in Nagano.
DAY 1 Hotel pickup in Tokyo and drive to Komagane (about 4 hours). Afternoon: Mars Shinshu Distillery tour and tasting.
DAY 2 Morning bus and Komagatake Ropeway to the Senjojiki Cirque, a walk at 2,600 m, then the drive back to your Tokyo hotel.

Tour season: September to June. The distillery does not produce in July and August, and is closed over New Year. Guests must be 20 or older to taste whisky. Your driver never drinks. Senjojiki is cold even in summer. Bring a warm jacket. If Mars Shinshu Distillery or the Komagatake Ropeway is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead visit the Takato castle park and the Komagane old town, or another distillery in Nagano. Dietary needs can be added in the booking form.

No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
