The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Nada, on the coast of Kobe, is one of the largest sake-making areas in Japan. Cold winds from the Rokko mountains, clean Miyamizu water and good rice from Hyogo made it famous. Many old breweries still work here, close to each other.
On day 2 you visit the Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum and the Kikumasamune Sake Museum. You see old wooden tools, big cedar tanks and how sake was made by hand. At the brewery shops you can taste different sake types. Non-drinkers and the driver can taste amazake or other non-alcoholic drinks instead.
In the afternoon you drive over the mountain to Arima Onsen, one of Japan's oldest hot spring towns. You bathe at Kinnoyu, the public bath with brown iron-rich water, the famous "gold spring". Then walk the narrow lanes of the old town.
Your English-speaking driver-guide explains sake types, labels and how to read a menu, so you can order with confidence later.
This product is alcohol-led and is not halal.
This is a private tour. Only your group. One van, one driver-guide, 1 to 6 guests, never shared with other travelers.
If a core brewery museum or the Kinnoyu bath is closed on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead visit another Nada brewery or another Arima public bath.
DAY 1 Pickup at your Tokyo hotel in the morning and drive to Kobe (about 7 hours with breaks). Free evening.
DAY 2 Hakutsuru and Kikumasamune sake museums with tastings in Nada, then Arima Onsen and the Kinnoyu bath.
DAY 3 Morning free in Kobe, then the drive back to your Tokyo hotel (evening arrival).
