The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Yamagata grows grapes, cherries and apples in its wide mountain basins. Takahata, in the Okitama area, is a small wine town with a well known winery and fruit farms on the hills.
On Day 1 we drive from Tokyo to Takahata, about 4.5 hours. At Takahata Winery you see where the wine is made and taste several wines made from local grapes. Your tasting is included. Non-drinkers and drivers can taste the local grape juice instead. We then drive through the vineyards and orchards of the Okitama basin. You stay in Akayu Onsen, a hot spring town next door, or in Yonezawa.
On Day 2 we visit Yonezawa, the old castle town of the Uesugi clan. We walk to Uesugi Shrine, built on the old castle grounds, and the moats around it. Yonezawa is also famous for Yonezawa beef. Lunch is optional, and we suggest a place that fits your taste. In the afternoon we drive back to Tokyo, about 4 hours.
Halal: this is a wine tour and not suitable for halal travellers who avoid alcohol venues.
This is a private tour. Only your group. One van, 1 to 6 people, never shared. Your driver-guide speaks English, and also Hindi and Urdu.
If Takahata Winery is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead visit another winery in the Okitama area with a tasting.

Yes. It is a private tour in our own van, so your driver-guide can skip, extend or add stops where time allows.
Is the price per person?
No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
