The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Go underground in Fukushima. Abukuma-do is a large limestone cave found in 1969 during quarry work. Today a lit path takes you past stalactites, stalagmites and tall cave halls. The air inside stays cool all year.
We leave central Tokyo in the morning and drive north on the expressway, about 3 hours. At Abukuma Cave you walk the standard course with your guide, about 40 to 60 minutes. The path has stairs and narrow, low parts, so wear good shoes. Your entry ticket is included.
After lunch nearby we drive to Miharu, a quiet castle town in the hills. Miharu is known for the Miharu-koma, a small wooden horse painted in black or white with bright patterns. It is one of Japan's well known folk toys. We visit the craft area where these toys are still made by hand, and you can look at the workshop and shop. Buying is optional.
In April, Miharu is famous for the Takizakura, a very old weeping cherry tree. If your date is in its bloom time, we add a short stop. In other months we walk the old town streets instead.
We drive back to Tokyo in the late afternoon. Total time is about 12 hours, including about 6 hours of driving.
This is a private tour. Only your group. One van, 1 to 6 people, never shared. Your driver-guide speaks English, and also Hindi and Urdu.
If Abukuma Cave is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead visit the Irimizu limestone cave area nearby or spend more time in Miharu old town.

What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
