The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Fukushima is one of Japan's great fruit regions. Along the Fruit Line road west of Fukushima city, orchards grow peaches, grapes and apples. Above the orchards rises the Azuma volcano range, crossed by the scenic Bandai-Azuma Skyline road. This 2-day trip joins fruit picking, a high mountain drive and a traditional doll craft.
On day 1 your driver-guide picks you up at your hotel in central Tokyo and drives north on the Tohoku Expressway, with rest stops. You reach Fukushima city around noon. In the afternoon you visit an orchard on the Fruit Line and pick fruit straight from the trees. Peaches are picked in summer, grapes in late summer and autumn, and apples in autumn. In the evening you stay at Tsuchiyu Onsen, a hot spring town known for kokeshi wooden dolls.
On day 2 you join a kokeshi painting workshop in Tsuchiyu and paint your own doll. Then you drive up the Bandai-Azuma Skyline, a mountain road with wide views over the Fukushima basin. At Jododaira you can walk up to the crater rim of Azuma-Kofuji, a near-perfect volcanic cone. The walk takes about 20 minutes on steps. After lunch you drive back to your Tokyo hotel, arriving in the evening.
The trip runs from July to October, when fruit picking and the Skyline are both open.
This is a private tour. Only your group. One van, 1 to 6 guests, never shared with strangers. Your driver-guide speaks English, and also Hindi and Urdu. If the Bandai-Azuma Skyline is closed on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead drive a different scenic Azuma mountain road with views over the basin.

Yes. It is a private tour in our own van, so your driver-guide can skip, extend or add stops where time allows.
Is the price per person?
No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
