The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Inuyama Castle stands on a hill above the Kiso River in Aichi. It is one of only twelve castles in Japan with an original keep, and it is a National Treasure. Not far away, Meiji-mura is a large open-air museum of buildings from the Meiji era, saved and moved here from all over Japan.
On Day 1 we pick you up at your hotel in central Tokyo and drive west, about 4.5 hours. In the afternoon we climb Inuyama Castle. Inside you walk up steep wooden stairs to the top floor, where a narrow balcony runs around the keep with views of the river and the Nobi plain. Castle entry is included. Then we walk the old castle town streets. You stay overnight in Inuyama.
On Day 2 we start at Urakuen garden, home of Jo-an, a small tea house from 1618 that is also a National Treasure. Garden entry is included. Then we drive to Meiji-mura. Entry is included. You walk among more than 60 old buildings, including churches, a prison gate and a post office. The highlight is the front lobby of Frank Lloyd Wright's Imperial Hotel from Tokyo, with its carved stone and warm light.
In the afternoon we drive back to Tokyo, arriving at your hotel in the evening.

If you prefer, we can instead spend the time at the Inuyama castle town and the Kiso River area The stairs inside Inuyama Castle are very steep. Meiji-mura is large, with about 2 to 3 hours of walking

Yes. It is a private tour in our own van, so your driver-guide can skip, extend or add stops where time allows.

No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
