The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Hamamatsu in Shizuoka is a city of music. Yamaha and Kawai began here, and it is still a center for piano making. This private day trip shows you the music side of the city, plus its favourite sweet.
The Hamamatsu Museum of Musical Instruments holds instruments from around the world: Japanese koto and shamisen, gamelan from Indonesia, African drums, European pianos and much more. Your entry is included.
At the Shunkado Unagi Pie Factory you see how Hamamatsu's famous butter biscuit is made. Then you visit Hamamatsu Castle, the early castle of Tokugawa Ieyasu, and finish at Lake Hamana, a large lake that opens to the sea. Your guide tells you how a small city became a world center for pianos, organs and other instruments, and why so many music makers still work here today. It is a relaxed day with short walks, good for families and music lovers.
Unagi pie contains butter and is not certified halal. Lunch is your choice; your guide can suggest options.
This is a private tour. Only your group. Your group of 1 to 6 people rides in one van with one English-speaking driver-guide, who also speaks Hindi and Urdu. No other guests ever join.
The tour takes about 12 hours, with around 3.5 hours of driving each way.
If the Museum of Musical Instruments is closed on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead visit Hamamatsu Castle and the castle town with more time at Lake Hamana.
