The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
The Hakkoda-Towada Gold Line runs through the Hakkoda mountains of Aomori, with beech forest, high moors and wide mountain views. On this 4-day private trip you drive it yourself in a rented Japanese sports car, with our guide car leading.
Your cars are GR86-class sports cars from Omoshiroi Rent-a-car in Noda, Chiba. Rental, fuel and insurance are included.
In the mountains you ride the Hakkoda Ropeway up to the summit area for views over the peaks, and you stop at Sukayu Onsen, an old mountain hot spring famous for its large wooden bath. Your ropeway ticket and bath entry are included.
Aomori is about 700 km from Noda, so we break the drive with nights in Morioka and Sendai. The tour is run by a Japanese used-car dealer, so your guide knows the cars as well as the roads.
This is a private tour. Only your group. Your group of 1 to 6 people rides in one van with one English-speaking driver-guide, who also speaks Hindi and Urdu. No other guests ever join.
The tour runs from May to November.
If the Gold Line or the Hakkoda Ropeway is closed on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead drive the Lake Towada lakeside roads and the Oirase area.
DAY 1 Hotel pickup by van, pick up the sports cars in Noda, long drive north, night in Morioka

Every driver needs their home driving licence plus an International Driving Permit (1949 Geneva Convention) or an official Japanese translation of the licence. Minimum driver age is 21. Without these documents the rental firm cannot hand over a car Our guide vehicle leads the whole way and you follow. Rental, fuel and insurance are included. Each sports car seats two. Other group members ride in the van and can swap at stops. Only registered drivers may drive Season May to November. Sukayu's large bath is traditionally mixed, with women-only hours; you may skip it If the Gold Line or the Hakkoda Ropeway is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead drive the Lake Towada lakeside roads and the Oirase area

Can we change the route on the day?
Yes. It is a private tour in our own van, so your driver-guide can skip, extend or add stops where time allows.
Is the price per person?
No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
