The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Route 292 crosses Shibu Pass at about 2,172 m. It is the highest point on any national road in Japan. On this 2-day private trip you drive it yourself in a rented Japanese sports car, with our guide car leading.
Your cars are GR86-class sports cars from Omoshiroi Rent-a-car in Noda, Chiba. Rental, fuel and insurance are included.
The road climbs through the high country of Shiga Kogen, with views toward Mt Yokoteyama, lakes, ponds and forest. At the top there are long views on clear days and stops for photos. You come down into the Yudanaka hot spring area for the night.
Day 2 takes you back to Noda by expressway to return the cars. The tour is run by a Japanese used-car dealer, so your guide knows the cars as well as the roads.
This is a private tour. Only your group. Your group of 1 to 6 people rides in one van with one English-speaking driver-guide, who also speaks Hindi and Urdu. No other guests ever join.
The road is open only from late April or May to November. Early snow can close it. Sections near volcanic areas can also close at short notice.
If Shibu Pass is closed on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead drive the Venus Line in Nagano.

Every driver needs their home driving licence plus an International Driving Permit (1949 Geneva Convention) or an official Japanese translation of the licence. Minimum driver age is 21. Without these documents the rental firm cannot hand over a car Our guide vehicle leads the whole way and you follow. Rental, fuel and insurance are included. Each sports car seats two. Other group members ride in the van and can swap at stops. Only registered drivers may drive Season late April or May to November. The pass is high and can be cold even in summer If Shibu Pass is closed or cancelled on your date, you can take a full refund of your booking, guaranteed. If you prefer, we can instead drive the Venus Line in Nagano

Yes. It is a private tour in our own van, so your driver-guide can skip, extend or add stops where time allows.
Is the price per person?
No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
