The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
In 1910 the writer Yanagita Kunio published Tono Monogatari, a book of tales from one valley in Iwate: kappa water spirits, mountain gods, house spirits and ghosts. It became the founding book of Japanese folklore studies. Tono is still a quiet farming valley.
DAY 1. We drive north from Tokyo into Tohoku. In the afternoon we reach Tono and visit the Denshoen folk village, with an L-shaped farmhouse where people and horses lived under one roof.
DAY 2. We visit the kappa pool behind a temple, the stone statues of Gohyaku Rakan in the forest, and a storytelling session where the old tales are told in local dialect with a guide's translation. Then we drive back to Tokyo.

Yes. It is a private tour in our own van, so your driver-guide can skip, extend or add stops where time allows.
Is the price per person?
No. The price is for your whole private group of up to 6 people, including the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
