Ashikaga Flower Park - Private Day Tour from Tokyo
Wisteria tunnels in spring or Japan's biggest illumination in winter, plus Ashikaga's old temple town and, in season, strawberry picking. Private van from Tokyo. One price for our service.
Road-day snapshot
This is your private day, so the route is flexible: tell us if you want to skip a stop, stay longer somewhere or add a place nearby.
The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Ashikaga Flower Park is famous for one thing: the Great Wisteria, a 150-year-old tree whose purple canopy covers an area the size of a tennis court, and the tunnels of white and yellow wisteria that run beside it. For three weeks in late April and early May it is one of the most photographed places in Japan. From mid-October to mid-February (17 October 2026 to 14 February 2027 this season) the same park becomes the largest winter illumination in the country, millions of lights strung through the bare trees.
We collect you in Tokyo and drive ninety minutes north into Tochigi. The park is the centrepiece of the day, and your guide times it for the best light. Around it we add what is in season. From January to May that means strawberry picking – Tochigi grows more strawberries than anywhere in Japan, and you eat as many as you can pick in thirty minutes. The rest of the year we walk the old town of Ashikaga: the Ashikaga School, Japan’s oldest academy, and Banna-ji, a temple in a moated samurai compound.
On the way back we can stop at Sano for its famous ramen, or at the Sano Premium Outlets if your group prefers shopping.
What you pay is what you pay
The price is one fixed amount for your whole group: the private van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide for the day. There are no per-person supplements and no booking fees. Park admission, strawberry picking and lunch are paid by each guest on the day.
Good to know
Wisteria bloom dates shift with the weather; your guide checks the park’s bloom report and tells you what to expect. Park admission is set by the park and changes daily with the flowers, roughly 400 to 2,300 yen. The illumination runs from dusk; in winter we leave Tokyo later so you arrive as the lights come on.
Flexible day
This is your private tour, so the day is flexible. If you want to skip a stop, stay longer somewhere or add a place nearby, write it in the booking notes or tell your driver-guide on the day and we will adjust the route where time allows.
