Misaki Tuna & Miura Coast - Private Day Tour from Tokyo
Japan's tuna port, a rocky island of cliffs and sea caves, a lighthouse over the bay and the beach where Commodore Perry landed. Sushi lunch straight from the market. One fixed price per group.
Road-day snapshot
This is your private day, so the route is flexible: tell us if you want to skip a stop, stay longer somewhere or add a place nearby.
The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
South of Yokohama, past Kamakura, the Miura Peninsula pushes out into the Pacific. Its tip is Misaki, the port that has landed more tuna than anywhere in Japan for a century, and the island of Jogashima just across the bridge. Kamakura gets the crowds; Miura gets the fish.
We collect you at your Tokyo hotel and drive an hour and a half south. In Misaki we walk the morning market and the harbour where the long-line boats come in, and your guide explains how a whole frozen tuna is graded and cut. Lunch is at a counter in the market: tuna in every cut, from the lean akami to the fat toro, at a price Tokyo cannot match.
Across the bridge is Jogashima, a flat island of cliffs and rock shelves with a lighthouse, a natural sea arch called the Horse’s Back and paths along the shore where fishermen cast and cormorants nest. On a clear day Mount Fuji stands across Sagami Bay.
In the afternoon we drive up the eastern shore to Kannonzaki, where the first Western-style lighthouse in Japan was lit in 1869, and to Kurihama, the beach where Commodore Perry’s black ships anchored in 1853 and ended Japan’s 200 years of isolation – the small museum tells the story. Then back to Tokyo along Tokyo Bay.
What you pay is what you pay
The price is one fixed amount for your whole group: the private van, fuel, tolls, parking and your driver-guide for the day. There are no per-person supplements and no booking fees. Lunch and the lighthouse are paid by each guest on the day.
Good to know
Fish market stalls are busiest and freshest in the morning, so we go there first. Jogashima paths are rocky – wear shoes with grip.
Flexible day
This is your private tour, so the day is flexible. If you want to skip a stop, stay longer somewhere or add a place nearby, write it in the booking notes or tell your driver-guide on the day and we will adjust the route where time allows.
