Winter · Jigokudani Monkey Park and Obuse, Nagano
Snow Monkeys and Obuse Chestnut Town Private Day Tour from Tokyo
The famous bathing snow monkeys of Jigokudani in a single day from Tokyo and back, by private van, no train changes and no overnight stay. Obuse chestnut town on the way home.
Road-day snapshot
Expressway north to Nagano, the monkey park first while it is quietest, then Obuse on the way back. Roughly 3.5 hours of driving each way.
The experience
A private journey, thoughtfully paced
Seeing the snow monkeys of Jigokudani usually means an overnight stay in Nagano or a chain of train and bus connections with your luggage. This private day tour removes all of that. Your driver-guide collects you from your Tokyo hotel early in the morning and brings you back the same evening, and the van is yours alone for the day.
At the park, a forest trail of about 1.6 km leads to the hot spring where the wild macaques gather. They are wild animals, so bathing and sightings cannot be guaranteed, but your guide knows the troop and where to stand. On the way home you stop in Obuse, the small Nagano town famous for chestnuts and for the artist Hokusai, who spent his last years there.
Our price covers the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your guide. Park admission, lunch and anything you buy are paid by you on the day.
Choose with confidence
Is this the right journey for your group?
Excellent fit if
- Wildlife lovers and photographers
- Families who want the monkeys without changing trains with luggage
- Winter visitors on a tight Tokyo schedule
Consider another option if
- You cannot walk 1.6 km each way on a forest path
- You want a relaxed late start (this is a 12-hour day from 06:30)
- You expect guaranteed bathing monkeys (they are wild animals)
Said plainly
The monkeys are wild. Bathing, sightings and crowd levels can never be guaranteed, and in warm weather they bathe less. The park path is uneven and icy in winter. Snow Monkey Park admission (about JPY 800 per adult) is paid by you at the gate.

Questions
Frequently asked
Will we definitely see monkeys bathing?
No one can promise that. They are wild animals and bathe most in cold weather. Your guide knows their habits and the best viewing spots, and we are honest about it in advance rather than after you arrive.
Is the park ticket included?
No. You pay admission at the gate, about JPY 800 per adult and JPY 400 per child. Our price covers the van, fuel, tolls, parking and your guide for the whole day.
How much walking is there?
About 1.6 km each way on a forest path, mostly flat with some steps. In winter it is icy, so wear proper shoes. Allow 30 to 40 minutes each way.
Why is the price per group, not per person?
Because the van and guide cost the same whether two or six people ride. One price for the whole group, up to six.
What time do we get back?
Around 18:30, depending on traffic and how long you stay with the monkeys.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for an automatic full refund to the original payment method. Within 24 hours, contact us directly so we can help.
